Duncan Hasson

Founder, Rebel Recruitment

Construction isn’t just a career for Duncan Hasson—it’s in his DNA. His journey started at just three years old, learning to drive a three-pin roller on his family driveway. By 10 years old, Duncan was part of a year-long runway extension project in Nauru, operating 80-ton excavators, graders, and drill and blast rigs—a hands-on introduction to the world of engineering and infrastructure.

With over 24 years of leadership experience in the construction, tunnelling, and infrastructure sectors, Duncan has worked across New Zealand, the UK, and the South Pacific, managing and delivering some of the largest and most complex projects in the industry. His career spans mega projects like Crossrail, Terminal 5 at Heathrow, London Underground upgrades, and the Auckland City Rail Link. He has held executive leadership roles at top-tier firms, leading strategic growth, business turnarounds, and high-performance teams.

Duncan’s experience as a freelancer in the UK for 15 years shaped his belief in the power of contracting—the ability to earn more, gain diverse experience, and take ownership of career choices. He understands firsthand the challenges freelancers face and the value they bring to the industry. That’s why he founded Rebel Recruitment—to provide New Zealand’s construction professionals with the same opportunities for autonomy, flexibility, and financial success that he experienced abroad.
